AWKA — Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has cut short his on-going distribution of funds to secondary schools and hospitals in the state to visit the scene of the demonstration by students of Anambra State University at Igbariam.
He directed the closure of the institution to enable security operatives deal with the activities of hoodlums that have allegedly been parading themselves as students and to enable government take the necessary steps to restore sanity in the university.
On arrival, the governor and his entourage that included the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Uju Okeke, observed one minute silence for the repose of the soul of those who lost their lives during the armed robbery incident in one of the students’ hostels.
He sympathized with the staff and students of the university and assured them that government would continue to take interest on the issue of security at all times, adding that he had already directed the Commissioner of Police to get to the root of the incident.
He advised the students to remain calm, reminding them that there was no need for them to take to the streets for his government to know what is right or wrong.
