Nigeria’s National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) has announced its partnership with German Development Agency (GIZ), on Shea butter production, to ensure sustainable economic development in the country.
The collaboration will help boost participation of active poor Nigerians in agriculture while ensuring that the current subsistence level of shea butter nuts farming in the country is increased, a statement signed by NAPEP Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Kobi said.
According to the statement: “Shea butter nuts farming and Shea butter production will greatly increase farmers’ income as the two are major sources of nutritional and economic importance to many people, especially in rural areas.”
“NAPEP is expected to create awareness about shea butter nuts production by organising workshops, seminars and training sessions for rural dwellers. NAPEP will also engage experts to explain to the people, the many benefits of shea butter nuts cultivation and the shea butter production and will attract banks and investors into the venture,’’ the statement furthered.
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on National Poverty Alleviation Programme, SSAP/NC NAPEP, Mallam Mukhtar Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa said NAPEP’s partnership with GIZ, will lead to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), soon.
