Delta boosts waste management with multi-million naira incinerators

Asaba — DELTA State Government has acquired multi-million naira integrated waste management facilities capable of processing 1,000 tonnes of waste daily without polluting the environment.

State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Frank Omare, told reporters  after inspecting the equipment in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where it is being fabricated locally, that the equipment would be put to use soon,  after installation in Asaba.

He said that as a result of the procurement of the facility, existing dump sites would be closed down, noting that  “this is a pilot scheme. Warri and other parts of the state would equally be provided with one soon.”

The equipment has various compartments such as incinerators in-vessel composters, recycling systems, refuse-derived fuels, integrated waste management and smokeless flares, among others.
