A political pressure group in Taraba State, Taraba Justice Forum has said the only way out of leadership vacuum existing in the state was to apply section 189 of the 1999 Constitution.

According to a statement signed by its chairman, Mr. Jabus Nyankum, the forum advised loyalists of the acting governor to apply the constitution as a way of protecting their interest and the larger interest of the state.

The forum also called for strategic talks in Abuja to be moderated by the national caucus of the ruling party, noting that the proposed meeting was important because of recent development in the state.

It further called on the national leadership of the party to call leaders of the party and government in the state to a peace meeting in Abuja where all interest groups can state their aspirations and expectations, to assist the national leaders in moving the state forward.

“We call on President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur to call key leaders of the state to a resolution meeting in Abuja. That meeting can be used to address all issues so that the  constitution can be protected.

“We call on political leaders in Taraba State to join hands to move the state forward by allowing the relevant sections of the constitution to be applied.

“This is the only way out of the present logjam which is not serving the interest of even those who claim to be loyalists of the ailing governor,“ the statement noted.

The forum noted that those afraid of the constitution should remember what happened during Yar‘Adua illness when similar attempt was made to stop the public from knowing the truth about his health, warning, “we should be careful not to hurt the leader we are trying to protect.

“We know what happened at the federal level then. We should tread softly so that posterity can judge us all correctly and rightly.

“Whatever fears we have, the constitution is supreme and the interest of the state is greater than our individual interest.“
