…as faction suspends Ag Chair
PORT HARCOURT—The crisis rocking Rivers State chapter of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has taken a new twist, with a faction suspending the Acting Chairman of the party, Mr. Esuku M. Esuku.
It will be recalled that the suspended Acting Chairman had earlier announced the suspension of some members allegedly behind his suspension, including the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Jerry Needam, for alleged anti-party activities.
Meantime, Mr Needam in his statement, said Esuku was suspended for anti-party activities.
Needam accused the suspended Chairman of allegedly using the “party’s machinery to pursue personal gains.
“For this questionable action and other traces of malfeasance which border on distrust, Esuku has ceased to be a member of ACN until we are through with our investigations. The general public is, hereby, advised in their interest to see Esuku accordingly,” Needam said in his statement.
In another statement, Needam said the party had mandated its former governorship candidate at the last election, Dr Abiye Sekibo and its National Treasurer, Mr Kenneth Kobani, to meet with the national body of the party over the political crisis involving the state governor, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi.
