MAKURDI —Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, weekend, threw open the race for his successor in 2015, saying that anybody from the three senatorial zones of the state could run for the position.
The Idoma people have not produced any governor in the state since it was created and people of the area had been insisting that it was their turn this time.
Suswam spoke in an interview with newsmen in Makurdi, saying that he had neither preferred nor anointed any candidate to succeed him at the end of his term in 2015.
According to Suswam, the claim by some politicians in the state that it was the exclusive right of one of the zones to produce the next governor of the state was unattainable. .
”When I contested in 2007, there were other contestants who ran with me, it was not restricted to my senatorial zone; that will also be the case this time.
“I cannot, therefore, sit here as an individual and tell you where it will go or who my successor would be; so every person interested in contesting is free to do so.”
