LAGOS — Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, yesterday, sealed off Hongxing Steel Company Limited at Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate, Lagos, for producing low quality steel.
Specifically, the company that has been in operation since 2010, is accused of undermining Nigeria Industrial Standards.
At a briefing after the exercise, Mr. Samuel Ayuba, SON’s Principle Standard Engineer, who led a team of SON’s Inspectorate and Enforcement officers to the company’s premises, said the action became necessary because the company was not producing its 10 millimeter reinforcement bars according to standards for Nigeria steel sector, which is NIS117: 2004.
He said: “SON monitors every company that is manufacturing in this country. When we came one month ago, we conducted tensile and chemical test analysis on the spot and we found some irregularities.”
