Plans have been concluded to reward families of security agents, who lost their lives in the course of carrying out their constitutional duties. This is with a view to encouraging others, especially now that the country is faced with security challenges to put in their best.
The initiative is being undertaken by Crown Media Limited in collaboration with Soundz and Meknitz Limited, with support from TVE, a subsidiary of Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Vanguard Media Limited and The Nation newspapers.
Briefing journalists during the unveiling of the maiden award in Lagos, Managing Director, Crown Media Limited, Mr. Emmanuel Nwabuokwu, explained that aside recognising efforts of the fallen heroes, the award was also to acknowledge security agencies, corporate organisation, state governments and individuals that had shown exceptional commitment to security of lives and property in Nigeria.
He noted that often times, while citizens are busy with their legitimate duties, security operatives, though trained to fight crime, were out there providing security to the nation by either fighting or chasing criminals at the risks of their lives.
Many of them, he lamented, are killed in the process while others are maimed, without their gallantry given due recognition like their counterparts in other countries. He explained that the objective of the award, tagged ‘Nigerian Security merit Award’ slated for July 17, in Abuja, “ is to inspire bravery and diligence among officers, as this will make them go the extra mile and to put in their best while performing their jobs.”
