ABAKALIKI — Ebonyi State House of Assembly yesterday, recalled its suspended former deputy speaker,  Valentine Okike, representing Onicha West constituency.

Okike was impeached and suspended over alleged abuse of office about two months ago.

Also, recalled was another member, Lillian Igwe, who represents Ivo constituency who was suspended for her alleged misconduct about one year ago.

The offence committed by the female lawmaker that led to her suspension on June 4, 2012, was her alleged excessive drinking, which the House had described as embarrassing to its dignity.

Presenting its report, chairman of the five-man adhoc committee which investigated the alleged offences of the female house member, Mabel Aleke, stated that the accused, Igwe, was initially unwilling to show any sign of remorse for the act as she demanded evidence before she would accept the allegations.

The committee added that she accepted her misconduct and had shown sign of remorse in her act of misconduct in the past and recommended that the House grant her leniency to enable her join her colleagues in the acts of legislation.

The House adopted the committee’s reports through a motion moved by Sam Nwali, who represents Ikwo North constituency, and the motion was seconded by  Jerry Obasi, who represents Ohaozara West constituency.

Following the adoption of the report, the suspension of the female lawmaker was lifted through a motion moved by Eni Chima, who represents Afikpo South West constituency and seconded by Ogbonnaya Nwifuru of Izzi West constituency.
