Court hearing postponed for Boston bomb suspect

BOSTON, Massachusetts (AFP) – A first court hearing for Boston Marathon bomb suspect Djokhar Tsarnaev has been pushed back to from July 2 to July 10, prosecutors announced on Friday.

Officials in Boston said both defense and prosecution attorneys had petitioned the court to postpone the hearing so that that they could have more time to prepare.

Tsarnaev, 19, faces life imprisonment or the death penalty if convicted on terrorism and other charges following last month’s twin bombings at the Boston Marathon, which he allegedly carried out with his older brother Tamerlan, 26.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev died in a gun battle with police three days after the April 15 bombings that killed three people and injured more than 260 at the marathon finish line./ STRINGER
