SENATOR Oluremi Tinubu, Senator Bukola Saraki, former governor of Kwara State, and immediate past President of Nigerian Guild of Editors and Editor- in- Chief of Vanguard Newspapers, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, were in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, yesterday, on condolence visit to Governor Kayode Fayemi over the death of his Deputy, Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka.
This came as the government raised alarm over illegal solicitation of funds by some unscrupulous individuals purportedly for the burial of the late Deputy Governor.
Adefaye extolled the virtue of the late Deputy Governor, describing her as a courageous fighter, who assisted in no small measure to draw development to the state.
In the condolence register, he wrote “Good woman, great fighter, rest in peace.”
Meanwhile, the state government has warned individuals involved in the illegal solicitation of funds, purportedly for the burial of late Deputy Governor, to stop.
It will be recalled that a popular youth leader in Ado-Ekiti (names withheld) had last week send out letters inviting people to contribute N25,000 each for the burial of Mrs Olayinka.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ganiyu Owolabi, said government had not authorised anybody or group of persons to solicit for funds.
