Students under the aegis of the National Association of Akwa-Ibom Students (NAAKIS), have commended President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for the appointment of the former Senator representing Akwa-Ibom East Senatorial District, in the National Assembly, Sen. Effiong William Bob, as the pro-chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of the University of Benin, Benin City, and Hon. Samuel Edo-Eket, as member of the Governing Council.
The Governing board which was constituted by the federal Government on January 15, 2013, also had as member, Jamila Salik, J K Gazama, SAN and Shettima Muhammed Saleh.
President of the Association, Comrade Francis Uko Inyang, who led the delegation under the supervision of the Staff Adviser, Dr. Utibe Atagha, said the inclusion of the duo of Sen. Bob and Chief Edo-Eket in the board, both from Akwa-Ibom state, shows that Mr. President appreciates the vast human potentials in the state.
Inyang, however described Sen. Effiong, as a renowned politician, Lawyer and philanthropist, adding that the appointment will go a long way to inject genuine transformation into the institution.
”When you talk of transformation, you need men and women of honour to drive the process. That is why President Jonathan’s appointment of Sen. Bob as the institution’s Pro-Chancellor, and Chief Edo-Eket as member of the governing board, is a right step in the right direction.
”While I, on behalf of the students; welcome these distinguished sons of Akwa-Ibom, to this glorious citadel of learning, I wish to reiterate that gradually, the Akwa-Ibom man is beginning to take his rightful place in the scheme of things”, Inyang, submitted
