The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, weekend, handed down a N2 million fine to Kaduna-based Liberty Radio FM over an Hausa phone-in discussion programme tagged, ‘In A Dalili.’
According to a report, the station is said to have aired a live comment by a caller who objected to the planned visit of the National Good Governance Tour, NGGT, team to the state on March 18, 2013 without giving the minister the right of reply.
In addition to the fine, Liberty Radio FM was also asked to feature the minister as a guest in subsequent edition of the programme, in line with section 3.4.3 of the Nigerian broadcasting code.
Vanguard investigation revealed that in a letter written to the station by NBC, the commission insisted that the station was obliged to pay the N2 million fine as directed, having accepted to have committed a professional misconduct in response to the query issued to by the Kaduna zonal office of the commission.
The station is expected to pay the fine within 14 days or it get a higher fine.
Meanwhile, all efforts made by this reporter to reach the monitoring unit of the NBC proved abortive.
