GOVERNOR Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, denied that the state received $15.7 million loan from Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank), to purchase 32 fire-fighting vehicles for the state.

This came barely four days after the bank said that it had authorized a $15.7 million direct loan to the state government to underwrite the purchase of 32 American fire-fighting vehicles manufactured by W.S. Darley & Co. (Darley) of Itasca, Ill.

Fashola who spoke while reacting to a recent publication (not Vanguard) after inspecting the Ikorodu road expansion project, Ikorodu, said “Lagos State government did not apply for any loan but what the State Executive Council approved was the purchase of 32 fire engines and other fire fighting accessories from W.S. Darley & Co. to aid the fire service officers in the state to respond effectively to fire disasters in Lagos.”
