CALABAR—BARELY a week after two pupils were kidnapped by a 4-man gang while being taken to school by their mother and about N1 million allegedly paid as ransom, kidnappers, Monday, abducted another woman, Mrs. Ime-Abasi Emmanuel, 30, demanding N50 million ransom.

Mrs. Emmanuel was allegedly kidnapped about 9pm on Monday in her residence, 16 Akiba Street, Eke Ita, Ikot Ansa, in Calabar, as she came out from the house to see the people who had called from the gate of the compound.

When contacted, Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Osita Ezechukwu, said the matter had not been reported to the police and that his men would carry out extensive investigation on the matter.

Speaking to Vanguard on phone, the victim’s husband, Mr. Emmanuel Pius, a staff of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, in Ilorin, Kwara State, confirmed the report and said that even when the wife called him, as he was trying to find out from them what happened, they shouted at him and cut off the call.

Narrating the incident, he said: “What happened is that you know I am based in Ilorin, Kwara State. I called my wife yesterday (Monday) evening. I have been communicating with her since morning and afternoon yesterday and she said that any time I want to sleep, I should call her, so in the evening around 9 o’clock I tried to call but it was not going through.

“So this morning, I called her again, the line was not going through. I suspected it was network, so around 10 o’clock, she called me and said they kidnapped her. After that, the people collected the phone from her and I asked them what happened. They asked why I was shouting and cut off the call.

“So I had to call my brothers and told them. According to what I was told, the kidnappers are asking for N50 million.”
