ABUJA – Nigerian authorities have been accused of being partly responsible for the plight of female pilgrims, who were recently detained and deported from Saudi Arabia.

This allegation was made, yesterday, in Abuja by Amirul Hajj for the Federal Capital Territory, Major-General Bagudu Maman (rtd), during a visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs to the FCT Hajj Transit camp in Abuja.

Maman said the Saudi Arabian authorities could not be blamed for implementing their laws, adding that his committee had written series of reports with regards to the issue of unaccompanied female pilgrims to the holy land.

He said: “I have written reports that unaccompanied female pilgrims should be left out.”
