By Peter Duru

MAKURDI—Majority Leader of Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Paul Biam, narrowly escaped death, weekend, when some unidentified gunmen fired gun shots at him at Anchia, near Zaki Biam in Ukum Local Government Area of the state.

Also attacked by the armed men was the state Commissioner for Works, Mr. Benjamin Anchaver, who had his car smashed.

Biam told newsmen, yesterday, in Makurdi that the attack was due to political struggle for supremacy by political gladiators in the area ahead of the 2015 elections.

According to him, the attack took place after he had attended a PDP stakeholders meeting convened by Ukum Local Government Chairman, Mr. Terfa Bossua and attended by the Chief of Staff to Governor Gabriel Suswam, Prof. Saint Gbilekaa and the State Commissioner for Works and Transport Mr. Benjamin Ashaver, amongst others.

He said: “During the meeting, some strange persons wielding weapons barged into the chairman’s house and I fled.

“It was on my way to Makurdi that a well known deadly organisation operating in the area shot three times at my car. Luckily I escaped.”
