BENIN – DEPUTY Governor of Edo State, Dr. Pius Odubu, Wednesday, lamented the protracted crisis rocking the state chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.

He urged members of the caretaker committee set up to run the affairs of the union to find solution to the problem.

Odubu bared his mind when the four-member caretaker committee led by its chairman, Mr. Tunde Egberemole, paid him a courtesy visit.

It will be recalled that the out-gone chairman of the council in the state, Mr. Friday Obanor, defied the directive of the national leadership of the union, by refusing to hand over the property of the council to the caretaker committee inaugurated by the national leadership.

Odubu said: “We watched with serious indignation the unfolding drama in your council. We were seriously concerned because your profession and your calling is such that you guide the society on a daily basis. We are concerned but we are also happy that you have achieved some level of peace since the inauguration of the caretaker committee by the national leadership of the union.

Let me advise that what matters most in election is the process leading to it and when the process is free and fair, people will have confidence in it.”
