ABUJA—The Senate was, yesterday, told that the Federal Government does not have the required database to ascertain, since inception, the total number of recipients of National Honours awarded in the country.
Speaking when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Special Duties, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties, Dr. Henry Akpan, said that there was the need for the establishment of a database to keep records of all recipients of the National Honour.
The Permanent Secretary told the Senators that against this backdrop, a budget of N80 million had been proposed, out of which N44.46 million was approved in the 2012 budget.
He said: “It is difficult to determine the recipients of national awards so far, due to the lack of a database. We proposed a budgnaira so as to achieve the purpose.”
