I’m indebted to Nigerians for my CFR award – IG

ABUJA—Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, said, yesterday, that he owed gratitude to Nigerians for the award of ‘Commander of the Federal Republic, CFR, on  him by President Goodluck Jonathan, noting “I am indebted to all Nigerians for this wonderful award.”

Speaking at a reception in his honour at Police headquarters, Abuja, Abubakar said: “Some people didn’t think we can get to where we are today but by the power of God, everything is possible and he has made it possible for me.”

He thanked President Jonathan, for “finding me worthy to be the IG in the first place. I thank the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force for the support and for standing by me. I also thank my late wife who toiled with me in life and gave me every support to get to where I am today. It is a pity she is not here to celebrate with me but I know she will be happy up there.”

“We are determined to succeed in the fight against crime and criminality. We are prepared, we are focused. Let me also say that the era of bribery and corruption in the police is over and the transformation agenda to make the force rival its counterparts in other places will be pursued vigorously and we will bequeath a force Nigerians will be proud of.”

Speaking on  the occasion, Senate President, David Mark said the IG deserved the national award going by the tremendous efforts he had put into the fight against crime, noting that while other IG’s before him suddenly become fat with protruding stomachs, the has maintained his trim figure, indicating that he was hard working.
