Imo State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has warned that it will henceforth impound any vehicle whose plate number is not conspicuously displayed by the owner.
The Sector Commander, Mr. Haliru B. Halilu, who read the riot act while fielding questions from journalists in Owerri, expressed disgust at the way motorists abuse vehicle number plates in Imo.
“This serious note of warning goes to motorists using defaced number plates in the name of aesthetics, as well as owners of tokumbo vehicles driven about with foreign number plates”, the Sector Commander said.
He fumed that some taxis, private and corporate organizations’ vehicles carry single number plates, either in front or at the rear, adding that in some instances, private number plates were painted in red, thus converting such to commercial.
“Some motorists, who had their number plates illegally confiscated by some law enforcement agents, go about without identification. Some others are broken, squeezed or hidden behind constructions meant to give the vehicle some form of protection either in front or rear. All these must stop”, Halilu warned.
He therefore warned that anybody or group of persons that flout the regulation on the use of number plate must be sanctioned accordingly
