2016 census: FG approves N600bn to NPC

ABUJA – To ensure a hitched free conduct of the next population and housing census exercise, President Goodluck Jonathan has approved a budget of N600 billion to the National Population Commission, NPC, to enable it commence adequate preparations ahead of the 2016 census exercise.

Chairman of the National Population Commission, Mr. Festus Odumegwu who disclosed thisThursday while receiving the Chief of Mission of the International Organisation for Migration, IOM, Mr. Ocaga Martins, in Abuja, said the amount is to cover the activities of the Commission for the next period of five years.

And we have now come out with a strategic architecture, operational plan and operational budget that has been present to our President, who has approved that architecture plan and budget. In the current strategic architecture that the NPC has launched, with the presentation to Mr. President on the September 4th, 2012, we have come up with a new vision to actually make sure that NPC becomes the centre of excellent for everything concerning population in Nigeria so that we can lead that demographic field for our national development and global competitiveness.
