Raising Nigeria’s education standard needs maximum approach

Worried about the decline in standard of education in the country, particularly with the lack in personal interaction between students and teachers, Chairman of Buckswood School, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Oba Adedapo Tejuosho, has said that the school was ready to close the noticeable gaps.

Speaking with journalists in Abeokuta, he said that the school was introduced in Nigeria to afford children, who do not have the privilege of studying abroad to get the same quality of education compared to what is obtainable in Europe.

Head of Operations of the school, Mrs Chika Nmezi, who represented Adedapo Tejuosho, said children who want to continue their British schooling in Nigeria now have the privilege to do so, adding that, the school was a new and unique private school and an alternative for Nigerians, who want their children to benefit from an education with traditional values and 21st century goals, but close to home.

She said, the school has an independent boarding facilities for overseas and students in Nigeria.

Her words: “With the academic curriculum, we are sure of giving each child maximum care and attention that few schools or colleges can match. Whilst we acknowledge that academic endeavour is key, we place as much importance on all the students, sporting, social and cultural development, throughout their time at Buckswood.”

“Our mission is to provide the best traditional British education for children between the ages of 10 and 18 in the country, so that a lot of our children could be exposed to international education without traveling abroad.”

The educationist explained that a lot of children that were supposed to be doing well in school had been mistaken for dullards by impatient teachers and administrators.

This, she said, was not right, adding that in Buckswood, each pupil has the privilege of having a counselor and a tutor.

She added, “Before you go to class in the morning, your counsellor meets with you and gives you counsel on your academic development. Here, problems that relate to learning are discussed and each pupil’s strengths and weaknesses are highlighted with a view to make the pupil better.”

The administrator, who noted that most proprietors in the country were in the school business for pecuniary gains, said Nigeria education system should make extra-curricular activities compulsory for the pupils.
