Osun drivers accuse FRSC officials of alleged bribery

OSOGBO—Drivers plying the Osogbo/Ibadan Express- way have raised the alarm on the alleged extortion perpetrated by officials of the Federal Roads Safety Corps, FRSC, stationed on the road, saying their continued stay on the road have done more evil than good.

The drivers, many of whom are commercial drivers, alleged that the FRSC officials on the road demand N500 from commercial vehicle drivers plying the roads and N1,000 from private car owners.

The drivers, who condemned the action of the officials, said they have abandoned the primary duty for which they are stationed on the road which is to ensure safety of lives on the road.

It was also gathered that some of the officials often engage in fisticuffs with any driver who refused their request. Our investigation revealed that two of the FRSC officials stationed at Sekona, Messrs O.D Ajayi and E.A Ojo have become thorns in the flesh of the drivers plying the road.

The two officials requested for monetary gifts and received same from the driver who took our correspondent along the road.

When a senior officer of the state command of the corps, who craved for anonymity, was asked to react on the issue, he directed our correspondent to the sector commander of the corps who was eventually said to be out of the state on public holiday.
