Lagos – Three more bodies have been recovered at Kuramo Beach, Lagos, where an ocean surge swept away 16 residents on Saturday.
The general manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA Mr Femi Osanyintolu, who confirmed this on Sunday, said that divers and other rescuers were still searching for the remaining bodies.
Osanyintola had on Saturday said that a body was recovered, while 15 others were missing. The recent recovery has brought the number of bodies to four, with 12 others still missing.
Osanyintolu revealed that most of the victims were those occupying illegal shanties at the waterfront.
Kuramo Beach and other waterfront resorts in the area has been cordoned off by security officials and personnel of emergency agencies.
LASEMA has advised residents of waterfront settlements in Lagos to vacate such places immediately, for fear of a reoccurrence of the Kuramo Beach tragedy . (NAN)
