Wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, at Ibara Prisons Command, in Abeokuta, identified with inmates and counselled them to always look unto God no matter the situation.
According to her, prisons are meant to ensure rehabilitation, reformation and reintegration of the innates back into the society. “No matter the circumstance, we should not lose hope but look unto God”, Mrs. Amosun said.
She explained that similar visits were made by members of the Spouses of Ogun State Government Functionaries Association (SOSGFA) to prisons and other less privileged homes in the state to establish a relationship with the less privileged and know how they could be assisted.
“Our visit is not a carnival jamboree and it is not going to be a one-off thing, rather it is an opportunity for us to assess the situation on ground across the less privileged places in the state.”
She expressed concerns over the alarming number of innates waiting trial and promised to highlight this fact to the governor in order to bring succour to needy innates.
“We have responsibilities to assist our innates. It is alarming to know that out of 757 innates at Ibara Prison Command, 537 innates are on awaiting trial list,” she said.
In his remarks, the Deputy Controller of Prisons, Ogun State, Mr. Noel Alewon, expressed gratitude to the governor’s wife for her good gesture and urged her to continue extending kind gesture to the innates to make prisons a better place.
