IKEJA—The Federal Airports Authority of Nigerian, FAAN, has said it would soon evacuate illegal cabs and trucks operating within the airport vicinity.
This is coming as the Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. George Uriesi, received the report of the committee, which he set up on the issue.
According to him, when the report is effectively implemented, the traffic bottleneck usually witnessed on Airport Road would ease.
Also, hawkers and food vendors not duly-registered with the agency will be shown the way out.
General Manger, Public Affairs, FAAN, Mr. Akin Olukunle, told Vanguard that the traffic jam at the airport, most especially at the hajj and cargo areas of Airport Road will be eliminated.
Olukunle, who described the bottleneck on the road as an eyesore, assured that the management of FAAN would ensure that those who have no business at the airport were completely restricted from gaining access to the complex.
He said in a bid to sanitise the airport environment, the agency will collaborate with the Lagos State government especially tame drivers of yellow buses who ply the airport road indiscriminately.
“We need to regulate the operations of the yellow taxes and buses in conjunction with Lagos State government. Also, we need to regulate the operations of our own people. We will soon come out with a position on the truck owners who presently operate at the airport, but are not supposed to be there.
“Not the operators alone, there are hawkers around there too. The hawkers can’t continue to be where the truck owners are operating. We will stop all this soon,” he said.
It will be recalled that FAAN and truck owners have been having a running battle for years and all efforts to relocate them from where they presently operate had failed on several occasions.
