Court remands scavenger for macheting villagers

Abuja – An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a scavenger, Bashir Bashir, in Police custody for alleged conspiracy and causing grievous hurt.

Apollus said that the accused and eight others, now at large, on the same date, attacked victims at Angwan Beri Beri, Dape village.

The prosecutor said that the accused and his gang stabbed complainants with machetes and cutlass.

He said that the complainants sustained serious injuries and were receiving treatment at a hospital in Gwarinpa.

Apollos said the offence contravened Section 79 and 245 of the Penal Code.

The accused, who claimed that he was sick, pleaded not guilty and asked the court to grant him bail.

The prosecutor objected to the bail of the accused, saying that the complainants were still receiving treatment at the hospital.

The Senior Magistrate, Abdullahi Illelah, said that since the accused needed medical attention, he should be taken to a government hospital and thereafter be remanded in Police custody.

Illelah adjourned the case to Aug. 6 for hearing. (NAN)
