BNC tasks Oshiomhole, Edo Assembly on LG poll

BENIN—Benin National Congress, BNC, a socio-cultural organisation in Edo State, yesterday, urged Governor Adams Oshiomhole and the leadership of the state House of Assembly to commence preparations for elections into the 18 local government areas of the state with a view to democratising the councils.

Condemning the resolve of the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Gen. Charles Airhaivbere (rtd) to contest the result of the just-concluded governorship election in the state at the tribunal despite the decision of his party to withdraw from the suit, the Congress admonished traditional rulers in the state to prevail on all aggrieved “political actors” to avoid tension or crisis in the state.

BNC, in a statement by Mr David Ekomwenrenren, Director of Publicity, said: “Oshiomhole and the state House of Assembly,  should speed up preparations for elections in the councils as stipulated by the extant laws by reconstituting Edo State Independent Electoral Commission as soon as possible to conduct free and fair elections for the third tier of government.
