BENIN—ORGANISED labour, weekend, in Benin City, Edo State, said its support for Governor Adams Oshiomhole ‘s second term ambition was for him to complete the projects he started and called on President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure one man, one vote in the July 14 governorship election.
Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, weekend, held a second rally to drum support for Oshiomhole, whom leaders of organised labour said, had shown enough evidence that he was the person, people of Edo needed to continue the massive transformation and development of the state.
Labour leaders, thousands of workers and youths, who defiled the heavy down pour to rally in support of Oshiomhole, declared that July 14 would determine if President Jonathan was ready for transformation in the country or not.
At the rally, which was attended by several support groups, including Nolly Hood actors led Zack Oji and Osita Iheme, popularly known as pawpaw, labour leaders said the labour movement was proud of Oshiomhole’s performance in three and half years in Government House.
President of NLC, Mr Abdulwaheed Omar, said, “We will rally round Oshiomhole because he is not an ordinary politician who diverts the money of the state for personal reasons but rather, he has proved that union leaders can be good administrators.
“We have every right to rally round him because he has not failed us. We are proud of him and we will match our words with action. Peoples Democratic Party set up a 49-member team to ensure victory for their candidate but the entire workers in the state will rally round Oshiomhole.”
Similarly, President-General of TUC, Mr Peter Esele, said the people wanted continuity, which was why they were behind Oshiomhole, who had delivered the dividends of democracy. He said “Oshiomhole is excellent. If he has delivered, why do you want somebody else?”
