BENIN CITY—THERE is fresh tension within the members of the civil society organisation in Edo State as to the whereabout of the Executive Director of the African Network for Environment and Economic Justice, ANEEJ, Rev David Ugolor who was picked last Friday evening by policemen handling the investigation into the killing of the Principal Private Secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Olaitan Oyerinde.
Vanguard gathered that Ugolor was arrested after one of the suspected killers of late Olaitan identified David as one of their sponsors and he was said to have identified Ugolor as the David when he was paraded along other persons by the investigating team from the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
However, members of the civil society organisations described the arrest of Ugolor as “another attempt by police to divert attention,” contending that the arrest was “curious since his arrest was done immediately the governor traveled abroad.”
When State police spokesperson Anthony Airhuoyo, was contacted, he explained that the officers investigating the matter were from the Command but a special investigating squard from the Force Headquarters, saying he did not have the details of Ugolor’s arrest.
A statement by Innocent Edemhanria, Programme/Policy Officer of the ANEEJ had weekend said the only reason the security operatives gave for Ugolor’s arrest and detention was that one of the suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Olaitan Oyerinde, Private/Principal Secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomhole mentioned the name “David.”
