IKEJA – Lagos State Commissioner of Police Umar Manko has read the riot act to officers and men of the force who allow crime to thrive in their areas of jurisdiction.
To check the development, he had directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers in the state to stop further attacks by miscreants on motorists in traffic gridlock or face disciplinary action.
He assured that a massive patrol of all strategic roads where motorists experience gridlock would be embarked upon by motorised and heavy duty motorcycle patrols.
The Police boss told Vanguard exclusively, that he had embarked on new security measures to ensure that criminals hibernating in all black spots and joints where drugs are sold were fished out and punished.
Manko said: “Henceforth, Lagosians would experience a remarkable improvement in crime control and prevention as we have mapped out new strategies aimed at not just fishing criminals out from their hideouts, but nipping crime in the bud.”
Though he declined to give details of the new security measures, Manko said the highlight of his onslaught would be the effective use of policemen on foot patrol to chase criminals away from the state.
He said: ”We are going to make effective use of them at those places where we experience traffic gridlocks. You know of late, these hoodlums have been attacking motorists at those points, especially at nights. We have declared total war and you would see positive results.”
