Insecurity: S-East Govs hold meeting


…Deliberate on Okorocha, elected PDP chairmen face-off
ENUGU—GOVERNORS of the South Eastern states met in Enugu Sundday to review the problem of insecurity in the country.

The Chairman of the South East Governor’s Forum and Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi who briefed newsmen after the meeting held at the Lion Building Enugu, however, did not give details of their deliberations.

He said the meeting which lasted for about four hours took a critical look at the on-going efforts to tackle insecurity, especially within the South East.

Governor Obi also said the meeting attended by all the governors in the zone, further deliberated on how to improve economic cooperation among states in the zone.

Although Obi declined answering questions from newsmen, it was gathered that the conflict between Governor Rochas Okorocha and Local Government Chairmen elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State formed part of their discussions.

Vanguard observed that the President of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Mr. Nwabueze Okafor, was invited by the governor midway into the meeting.

Okafor, who is the Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area met with the governors for about 40 minutes.
He, however, did not speak with newsmen on why he was summoned to the meeting..
