A health consultant, Dayo Ibrahim, has advised Nigerians to cultivate the habit of regular short walks to improve sleeping patterns.
Ibrahim, a staff of Pregnancy and You, noted that benefits of exercise are too numerous to ignore. “Regular exercise helps you fall asleep faster, sleep longer and wake up less frequently during the night. In fact, if people devote just 20 minutes of their time each day to exercise, it can help them fall asleep more quickly, experience deeper sleep stages and wake up fewer times throughout the night.”
He said this while giving tips to about 40 participants of the six-kilometer The Eva Fun Walk held recently in Ogudu, a suburb in Lagos. The Eva Fun Walk, an expression of the “Be Eva Active” campaign designed by Coca-Cola Nigeria, saw participants taking off from Alhaja Bus Stop on Ogudu Road, walked towards Ojota and returned to the start point.
On the importance replacing lost body fluids when exercising, Ibrahim observed “A decrease in the water levels in the body leads to weakness.
A major loss can cause muscle cramps, headaches, and heat stroke. So, it’s vital to ensure you carry as much water along as is convenient.”
Said a participant in the walk, Ibrahim Damilare, an accountant “I know walking is good for the health but I have not been encouraged to go on walks until today.
“In the few minutes I have been engaged in this walk, I feel a lot lighter and happier with myself. I think it is a culture I want to maintain. It has also afforded me the opportunity to bond with other residents I have never spoken with in this neighborhood.”
Responding, Soji Omoigui, Brand Manager, Still Beverages, Coca-Cola Nigeria, reiterated the vision behind Eva Fun Walk and the strategic approach in reaching out to communities.
“As a nation, we must realize that keeping healthy is a culture; a way of life. Exercise is good for the brain. We need not fall ill before we think about our health. The “Be Eva Active” campaign is geared towards building a healthier nation, having better-connected communities, and stronger relationships.
“We can collectively enhance the quality of life by simply doing things that will make us more productive and happier, and walking together is one of those things.”
Eva Fun Walk is activated by Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited’s ‘Live Positively’ initiative and is endorsed by the Lagos State Government.
The campaign encourages residents to engage in regular cardiovascular exercises, as well as build more inclusive and connected communities.
The “Be Eva Active” is borne out of the brand’s vision to promote wellness by encouraging Nigerians to make walking an active part of their lifestyle through the Eva Fun Walk – a community-based exercise and fitness programme which also helps to build better connected communities.
