ADO-EKITI—No fewer than 45 local government officials in Ekiti State were found to have fraudulently promoted themselves beyond their statutory bar in service. The government vowed to sanction those found guilty of the offence.
Chairman of the state Local Government Service Commission, LGSC, Chief Aderemi Ajayi, said this in Ado-Ekiti, weekend.
The commission, however, dismissed the rumour making the round that the government intended to carry out massive purge at the local governments.
Governor Kayode Fayemi, had at a meeting with the caretaker chairmen of the local governments, lamented that the council officials were unable to record much progress due to the over-bloated number of staff at the council level.
Ajayi assured that none of the staff would be sacked except those that engaged in fraudulent practices.
He disclosed how these indicted council workers allegedly engaged in shady deals in their career progressions to get promotions to positions they were not qualified to hold based on certificates they possessed.
He said: “It was so embarrassing that these workers most of whom were school certificate holders, who ordinarily should not be promoted beyond level 7 going by the scheme of service wriggled their ways to level 14.
