MR. Kenneth Imansuangbon one of Gen. Charles Airhiavbere’s main challengers in the run up to the PDP primaries has come out to throw his backing for the PDP candidate in the forthcoming election.
Immasuagbon and the other aspirants who contested against Airhaivbere had accused the PDP leadership of imposing the former Army General on the party and had as such withheld support for him. One of the aspirants, Prof. Ihonvbere went to the extent of decamping from the PDP to the ACN.
Imansuangbon famed as the Rice Man on account of his celebrated distribution of rice to citizens during festivities had left the country for an extended vacation in the United States leaving the PDP hierarchy, its candidates and the electorate in suspense.
Remarkably, a day after the PDP primaries Comrade Adams Oshiomhole visited Imansuangbon where it was apparent that the incumbent governor was out to woo him away from the PDP.
After his return Imansuangbon told reporters in Lagos that he was remaining in the PDP but his support for the General was not really played up.
Now weeks after, Imansuangbon has confirmed his full support for the PDP candidate as he told Vanguard yesterday that party loyalty was for him of greater interest than any other consideration.
“There is no doubt that I was not happy with the outcome of the primaries but there is no doubt about it now that because of the intervention of Mr. President and Chief Tony Anenih I am now fully backing the candidate.”
“It is a party decision and as a loyal party man I am obliged to back the choice of the candidate.”
