Asaba—CHAIRMAN of Delta State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Nkem Okwuofu, yesterday, said that the Commission had issued queries to some workers of Ughelli South Local Government Area for shutting the council last week.
Okwuofu, yesterday in Asaba, warned that the state government would not tolerate any form of lawlessness, saying “I instructed that we should give queries to all of them (Ughelli South council workers) for that unruly behaviour.”
Worried by the closure of the council secretariat, she said, the commission immediately summoned the chairman of the council and workers involved in wrangling over Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, election into Ughelli South branch of the union to her office in Asaba.
She said: “I ordered them to open the gate and if they had any grievances, they would be addressed at a later day. But today, I am speaking officially, we are not members of NULGE and we will attend to NULGE issues when they are reported to us. But for now, let them know that none of them has the authority to lock up the gate of the council.”
