The police authorities have appointed a new Commissioner of Police for Edo State ahead of Saturday’s election

At the end of  a stakeholders parley in Benin Wednesday the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar  directed the Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr. Femi Adenaike who came with him to take over as the new Commissioner of Police for Edo State.

All the Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers, DPOs were also affected in the changes.
The Police Service Commission, PSC also, yesterday, said that it is deploying top officials of the commission to monitor conduct of policemen during the election.

Earlier the Police Service Commission (PSC) deployed three Commissioners to Edo to monitor the conduct of police involved in the Saturday governorship election.

In a  statement issued by Mr Ferdinand Ekpe, the Chief Information Officer of the commission on Wednesday said that Dr Otive Igbuzor, the Commissioner in charge of Strategy would lead the team.

The statement said that the deployment of the team, which also includes some senior management members of the PSC, was in pursuant to the constitutional responsibility of ensuring police accountability.

“The Police Service Commission pursuant to its constitutional responsibilities for police accountability will be monitoring police conduct during the 14th July governorship election in Edo state,’’ it said.

It pledged the commission’s support to democratic principles as well as the INEC to deliver free, fair and credible election.

The statement urged all stakeholders in the state to be law abiding and play according to the rule as that would help the police carry out their duty effectively.

It urged the people of the state with complaints or observation on the conduct of the police during the election to call the following dedicated telephone lines, 08164183597 (Edo North), 08071408009 (Edo South) and 08167435347 (Edo Central).
