ENUGU – THE Enugu State Police Command said weekend that it recovered 46 firearms and arrested 81 armed robbery suspects within the last three months.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Musa Daura disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen. He said six cases of cult related activities were reported, and 28 suspects were arrested afterwards.
According to him, a total of 19 car snatching cases were reported while 65 suspects were arrested, noting that 18 vehicles were also recovered during the period.
The CP lamented that most criminal activities that took place in the state recently were carried out by hoodlums riding commercial motorcycles popularly known as okada.
He assured members of the public that modalities were being worked out to put an end to the problem.
Daura said his command in partnership with traditional rulers in the state had packaged a programme tagged ‘’operation know your neighbour in the state’’ with a view to exposing perpetrators of crimes.
He expressed optimism that the programme would surely bring sanity from the grass roots to the state level.
The commissioner, however, charged members of the public to make use of the telephone numbers contained in the various media jingles in the state judiciously for effective relations and for the free passage of vital information.
Speaking on the recently banned road blocks and corruption, he warned that anyone found wanting would not be spared.
He therefore charged his men to respect the rule of law, shun corruption and be dedicated to their duties
