Akure – CHAIRMAN of Labour Party, LP, in Ondo State, Chief Olu Ogidan, yesterday, said Governor Olusegun Mimiko was yet to officially signify his intention to contest for a second term.

Various interest groups within and outside the state had inundated the party secretariat with calls, especially from 18 council areas of the state for him to continue in office.

This came as Ogidan said the party would provide a level playing ground for aspirants interested in contesting the governorship primaries with Mimiko.  INEC fixed the election for October 20 this year.

Only one of the chieftains of the party from Igbotako in Okitipupa council areas of the state, Chief Francis Ogunjumelo, signified interest to contest the primaries with the incumbent governor.

Ogidan said in Akure at the endorsement of the governor for a second term by the 13 pioneer commissioners in the state that the ticket of the party flag bearer was still open.

He told the gathering that the governor had not signified his intention to contest the coming election but that the Secretariat of the party is inundated with calls across the 18 council areas of the state for him to continue in office.

Meanwhile, the 13 pioneer commissioners under the aegis of G-13 said they were supporting another term for the governor because of the feat achieved in the last three and half years.

Their Chairman Alhaji Sikiru Basaru, said the commissioners that were dropped during the last cabinet reshuffle were still solidly behind the governor, adding that they were ready to contribute to the emergence of Mimiko as governor for another four years.
