IKEJA—Lagos State Government will today, commence enforcement its laws against commercial vehicle drivers in Ikorodu area of the state, fond of discharging and loading passengers in unauthorised spots.
The measure, it said, was aimed at ensuring safety of lives and free flow of traffic on the axis.
The operation will be carried out by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA and Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences.
General Manager of LASTMA, Babatunde Edu, warned commercial buses operating in Ikorodu and its environs, especially those loading and discharging passengers indiscriminately at the town’s roundabout to desist from such act and move to the designated-bus garage at Sabo or face the wrath of the law.
Edu spoke a meeting organised by the agency and Lagos State Task Force on Environmental for the two recognised unions in the state, National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW and Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria, RTEAN in Lagos.
He said that commercial bus operators were fond of flouting traffic rules and regulations as they always drive against traffic and turn the whole of Ikorodu into parks rather than use dedicated parks allocated to them.
