OSOGBO—Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Mr. Osita Chidioka, has projected reduction in accident rate in the country by 50 per cent by 2015.
Fielding questions from newsmen in Osogbo, yesterday, after he addressed men and officers of the Osun State Command of FRSC, Chidioka stated that with the support enjoyed by the commission from the Federal Government and the dedication of his staff carnage on Nigerian roads had been on the decline.
The Corps Marshal, who was represented by his deputy in charge of operation, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, warned personnel of the commission against negative tendencies that might tarnish the reputation of the commission.
Chidioka, who was in the state as part of his on-the-spot assessment of the commission nationwide, also warned that any command that failed to meet up to expectation or engaged in corrupt practices will be disbanded.
He charged them to guard against rumour- mongering and frivolous petitions that could not be substantiated, adding that they should be above board.
The Corps Marshal who insisted that the commission was not ready to compromise its integrity advised officers who cannot live up to the expectation of the commission to resign honourably before being forced out of service.
He assured officers that everything was being done to improve the welfare of members but warned that the commission will not retain the services of those that fails to pass the next promotion examinations.
According to him, the era of godfatherism employed by officers to gain promotion in the past is over adding that every promotion will be strictly on merit.
He commended Osun State government for assisting the commission in the provision of logistic towards realizing the goals of the commission.
