UYO—AKWA Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, said, weekend, that the Federal Government will take the required steps to revamp the aviation sector in the country to ensure safety for air travellers.
Governor Akpabio who spoke when he paid a condolence visit to 6th Battalion, Ibagwa, Abak, to condole the men and officers of the unit over the death of its commanding officer, Lt. Col. Onwechi J. Ochigbo, in the ill-fated Dana Air crash which claimed the lives of 153 passengers aboard the flight in Lagos, said: “I have discussed with Mr. President and I know that he is taking steps to revamp the aviation sector in the country to ensure air safety for all Nigerians.
“Don’t cry like people without hope. We will use this sad incident to prepare a better place for our children so that this kind of sad event would not happen again in Nigeria.”
Akpabio who was accompanied on the visit by Major-General A. S. Bugaji, and Brigadier-General Shehu Yusuf, Commanding Officer, 13th Amphibious Brigade, Calabar, among others, commiserated with the family and the Battalion over the unfortunate incident.
