FG hails Mimiko’s education policies

AKURE—THE Federal Government, yesterday, lauded the Ondo State Government for providing quality education to the people and other dividends of democracy that has made the state a cynosure in the country.

Minister of State for Education, Mr. Ezenwo Wike, gave the commendation at the commissioning of Caring Heart Mega Primary School, Oke- Ijebu, in Akure.

Wike noted that Governor Olusegun Mimiko had proved himself going by the transformation that had taken place since he assumed office.

He argued that the construction of roads without education was not dividend of democracy, noting that the present administration had not only constructed roads but had provided quality education for its people.

Wike said: “There cannot be true dividend of democracy without education; this kind of schools that have been built by the Ondo State Government will improve the standard of education in the state.”

The minister stated that the activities of the state government in the education sector were in tandem with the philosophy of President Goodluck Jonathan in the sector.

He said because of this, the Federal Government’s flag off of the distribution of textbooks in the South-West would be done in Ondo State next week.

Gov. Mimiko, in his address, said his administration was spending not less than 35 per cent of the total budget of the state on education.

He said if the premier of the defunct Western Region, the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, could spend 42 per cent of the region’s budget on education, there should be no excuse for any government in the South-West to spend less on the sector.
