Eagles need staying power – Okumagba

NATIONAL vice-chairman, Nigeria’s Football Support Club, Mr. Vincent Okumagba has called on the Head Coach of the Super Eagles to work more on the stamina of the players.

Okumagba in a chat with Sports Vanguard after the Nigeria Rwandan match at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar last weekend for the 2013 African Cup of Nations which ended 2-0 in favour of the Eagles said that the Eagles gave the Fans total football but lost steam towards the end of the match.

“It was a lovely victory. We thank God our boys are picking gradually. The match was a balanced match the boys have tried their best, but the coach needs to work in another area. He should go and work on their stamina, let them get enough stamina to be able to face 120 minutes football.

“By that I think he is improving and I give him 90% pass mark. They had the stamina but it is one thing to have the stamina and another thing to keep full 90 minutes.

We were lucky at the dying minutes they (Rwanda) could have scored and equalize and we thank god for it. What our boys need now is to be able to contend any pressure, not even for 90 minutes but 120 minutes, because it is not over until it is over.”
