Anenih commends Benin monarch over Igbinedion’s pardon

ABUJA — FORMER Chairman, Board of Trustees, BoT, of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, yesterday, described the lifting of the four-year old suspension on the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion by the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa, as timely for PDP.

Anenih, in a statement, yesterday, commended the Oba of Benin for his gesture. He stressed that the decision of the Benin monarch to lift the suspension was a mark of his kind-heartedness and magnanimous spirit.

The PDP chieftain, in the statement entitled Igbinedion: I Commend Oba of Benin’s Benevolence, read: “I received with utmost joy the news that our esteemed Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Okpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa, has lifted the suspension order placed on the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion.

“While I rejoice with my brother and friend, the Esama of Benin for this reprieve, I commend the Oba’s kind-heartedness and magnanimous spirit in lifting the suspension order.

“The timing of the lifting of the suspension order on the Esama, who is a dedicated leader of our party (PDP), is significant to us and we cannot but commend His Royal Majesty for his Royal love.

“I pray that Almighty God will continue to imbue the Oba with wisdom and good health to provide progressive leadership to the people, while I urge the Esama to invest all his energies into rebuilding the Oba and the people’s confidence in him.

“I call on well-meaning Benin sons and daughters, and indeed all the good people of Edo State, to support the effort of the Oba to preserve the Benin heritage and ensure peace in the kingdom.

“To the able leader, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, I say congratulations and to God be the glory.”
