Amaechi restates commitment to tackle unemployment

PORT HARCOURT – Rivers State Governor, Mr.  Chibuike Amaechi, has restated his administration’s commitment to continue to create jobs to tackle  unemployment in the state.

Amaechi spoke when the Chairman and members of the Ogbum-Na-Abali Community Council paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Port Harcourt.

He said:  “There are different ways we are trying to improve on employment and create more jobs, one is in the area of agriculture. You should ensure that your children are prepared to participate when we advertise for people to be engaged in farming and other agricultural activities.”

“We are rehabilitating Risonpalm. We are establishing 2,000 hectares of banana farm in Ogoni area. There is supposed to be about 3000 hectares of cocoa and other crop farms in Etche and several fish farms here and there. So your children should be ready to participate in these agricultural activities”

He told the council of chiefs that his administration would also immortalise prominent sons of the Ogbum-Na-Abali Community, who though dead would be remembered for their contributions to the development of Rivers State.

“I agree with you that your children should be immortalized, I agree with you, both late Chief Nwobidike Nwonodi and late Chief Emmanuel Aguma should be immortalised,” he said.

On water, he said efforts were on to ensure steady provision of potable water in the state.

Earlier, chairman of the Ogbum-Nu-Abali Community Council, Prince Theophilus Owhonda, who spoke through council spokesperson, Ogbam Ojimah, said “this courtesy visit is to felicitate with you on your landmark achievements and sterling leadership as the governor of our beloved Rivers State.”

The council commended Governor Amaechi for his accomplishments in the area of security, social amenities and infrastructure, human capacity development, education, health among others.
