Young players participating in the on-going Season 2 of the Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) U-17 tournament for boys and girls have said that the age-grade competition is a good arrangement targeted at helping them realize their football dreams.
The players made this revelation recently during the just concluded Airtel Rising Stars Ibadan zonal championship held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan, Oyo State. The Ibadan zonal championship’s best goalkeeper for female, Omole Toyin said the tournament had afforded her the opportunity to learn new things about goalkeeping, thus fast-tracking her dream to develop into a player capable of donning the national colours.
“First of all, I thank God for making me whom I am today. I also want to thank my coach and Airtel in particular for this opportunity. This ARS has exposed me to many new things about football. My dream is to develop into the kind of player that can play professional football abroad and also for the national female team,” said the 16 year-old SS1 student of Ado Grammar School, Ondo State.
Meanwhile, the stage is all set for the Lagos national final which is billed to hold first week in July, 2012. Eighteen players each for the male and female categories from eight zones are expected to woo football agents, scouts and coaches with their talents, aside from the coveted prizes, during the finals.
