SOME violent Hausamen yesterday threw sanity to the wind as they unleashed terror on some policemen in the popular Bodija Market in Ibadan leaving two persons dead and a police post burnt.
Also, eleven vehicles, nine motorcycles were either burnt or vandalized. The bloody clash forced thousands of marketers and traders out of the market abandoning their shops and wares. Some butchers whose shops are close to the place left their meats on the table and ran for dear lives.
When they besieged the police post, all detainees under investigation were set free. The quick response of security men which included policemen, the security team tagged Operation burst, men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, soldiers checked the escalation of the crisis.
When Saturday Vanguard got to the scene of the incident yesterday, all the stalls, shops, banks, filling stations in the area were deserted, while the troubled spot was barricaded by fierce-looking policemen.
According to one of the officers on night duty at the police post, he said the genesis of the crisis was the clash between a Hausa man and a Fulani who were fighting over a commercial sex worker in Bodija.
