Abakaliki – The Chelsea FC of England fans club in Abakaliki has urged the Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, to immediately recall John Mikel-Obi to the team as his rebuilding process continues.

The club made the call on Sunday in Abakaliki while reacting to the midfield maestro’s superlative performance in Saturday’s English Football Association’s (FA) Cup final where Chelsea beat Liverpool 2-1.

The spokesman of the club, Amamchukwu Udeaja, said that Mikel still had enough to offer the team as it was presently being built on young and inexperienced players.

“The team needs some established players to add the needed experience into it to compliment the zeal and flair of the new players.

“Mikel has rediscovered his form as evidenced by his strong performances for the team since Roberto De-Matteo took over from sacked Andrea Villas-Boas.”

According to Udeaja, Keshi should make history as the first Super Eagles coach to have the courage of playing Mikel in his traditional defensive midfield position.

“Keshi’s predecessors couldn’t get the best from Mikel because they played him in the central midfield position which is alien to him due to his defensive duties at Chelsea.

“It is impossible for Mikel to play well in the central midfield position for the Super Eagles when he trains and plays the defensive role every time for Chelsea.

“Keshi should scout for players who will be playing the playmaker’s role for the team as it had been its Achilles heels since the exit of Austin Okocha.”

Udeaja, however, called for concerted efforts at ensuring that the player turns a new leaf and patriotically serve the nation which gave him the springboard to attain fame and affluence.

“Those who are close to him should make him to realise that without Nigeria, he could have been an ordinary player like many who didn’t have the same opportunity he had.

“He should remember the show of love and support given to him by Nigerians even President Goodluck Jonathan during his father’s abduction.”

“His parents and manager, John Shittu, should work on his psyche to make him to realise that for instance, Lionel Messi has not attained full global recognition because of his epileptic showings for Argentina.”

Udeaja also urged Chelsea fans across the globe to pray fervently for the team to win the UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich of Germany on May 19.

“The win will ensure that we participate in next year’s edition as our present placing on the Premiership League cannot guarantee us a place in the elite club cup competition.”  (NAN)
